SO APPARENTLY THIS IS BANE FROM THE DARK KNIGHT RISES

Unpopular opinion time: I think Christopher Nolan’s Batman movies are actually kind of terrible! And I say this as someone who really liked his other films. But I honestly think this guy has no idea what the franchise is actually about. I guess we’re supposed to look at some cool action sequences and think “YES, THIS IS TOTALLY BATMAN” and ignore the way he totally fails to make Bruce Wayne compelling or relatable in any way besides generic overwrought HRRRGGGHHH I AM THE NIGHT, I AM JUSTICE, I AM MANPAIN, and the films’ woefully terrible mishandling of female characters up to and including the omission of Barbara Gordon in favor of Gordon’s son, and the way he seems to think that Morgan Freeman and Nestor Carbonell make up for erasing every other character of color (LIKE RA’S AL GHUL) (LIKE MOTHERFUCKING BANE, FOR GOD’S SAKE), and uh, I guess the fact that the Joker didn’t actually make any jokes? Which. You know. Is kind of a big deal.

And I’m not sure why Frank Miller’s Batman gets so much flack for being terrible and melodramatic and yet people think Christopher Nolan is SO AMAZING. Aside from the creepy pedo implications (a bullet Nolan dodged by totally avoiding the inclusion of Robin at all, so uh, no points there!) I don’t… think he’s significantly less offensive. Maybe technically a better writer, but that’s nooot the same thing.

So yeah. Sorry your Batman movies are so bad, Mr. Nolan. I look forward to you not making them anymore so I can get back to not wanting to flip tables every time someone asks me if I’m excited for the new one.
